Senior Editor (Atlanta, GA)
Are you a highly skilled line editor who knows how to talk to everyday consumers about health? Do you have experience top-editing other editors? copy? Are you organized, detail oriented, and deadline driven? We want to hear from you. The Senior Editor reports to the Managing Editor and acts as that person?s strong right hand, helping to manage a team of editors and writers in the creation of succinct, accurate, easy-to-read questions and answers around hundreds of consumer health topics.
This is contract position that could lead to a staff position. May be based in Atlanta, Georgia, or offsite.
Responsibilities Include:
? Edit health questions and answers from various sources in Microsoft Excel and online for readability, content, adherence to specific editorial guidelines, and SEO
? Ensure content is engaging and appropriate for a lay consumer audience with an average education level
? Review, assess, and guide the work of other editors
? Provide highly specific, constructive feedback to writers
? Help recruit and train talented freelance health editors and health writers
? Juggle multiple duties and projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
? Minimum of 7 years? experience as an editor in a consumer health publishing environment
? Minimum of 1 – 2 years? experience in online publishing
? A broad and deep knowledge of consumer health topics
? Strong organizational skills
? Ability to work independently and collaboratively
? An enduringly positive attitude and well-honed problem solving skills
? Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
? A Bachelor?s degree in journalism or a related field
Must be available to work some evenings and occasional weekend hours.
